The world is only as good as its Engineers

A person who says he is an engineer is always underestimated, especially in India. There is no value for a person who is trained to tame metal and energy to his will. I have a very different opinion that a country is as good as its engineers.
We live in a generation of smartphones and easy commuting. A 1000 years ago if a man wanted to go another city for work he could forget about hearing from his family for months and just to get to the other city he would have to ride a horse in the blistering sun, a mere 10 miles a day. He would not have ready made food nor would he have ample amount of water, and flying to your destination was something which we envied from birds. Who gave us all these miracle gift ? How does a car move when we tap our foot down or the screen slide when we swipe our fingers across it ? If a person 1000 yrs ago saw a simple motorbike traveling faster than their most prized horse for  0.01% the effort, he would instantly call us God and start praying to the bike.
An engineer is simply a person who understand how matter interacts with energy and how we can use those interactions to our benefits. Steve jobs and bill gates are possibly the most well known engineers in our time and why shouldn’t they be. Alexander graham bell is credited for giving us telephones, Hennery ford is called the father of modern age as he made personal automobile possible. For any industry to advance and prosper, first they must invent more advanced tools and that is what the humble engineer provides with.
Farmers provide a nation with food, doctors keep the nation healthy, our soldiers protect the nation, the business community brings income for the nation. But it engineers who help farmers farm more efficiently by making better tractors, making irrigation more efficient. They help doctors by providing them with precision engineered equipment, laser surgery is possible cause an engineer invented laser and now some surgeries are done without cutting the skin ! All of the nations defense system are designed, manufactured and maintained by engineers. Business cannot flourish without easy commuting and communication. Another small example, you sit on chairs that are engineered to handle such a variety of load that it can take all your weight on one of its leg without collapsing, we should be thankful that we don’t have to pay extra to sit on chairs that come with a 2 year warranty !
A nation develops from scratch and engineers are the first to come to light for development and last in line to be thanked to. But we don’t do it for the thanks, we do it for the our selfish hunger to play with inanimate objects and learn where can we use them for our benefits. We engineers get the thrill to hear a clean engine roar under our command, we love to see a plane fly as we gave life to the metal. We study day and night so we learn what materials to use in our contraption that expand its lifetime. We introduce ergonomics in everything because we know one machine would lead to another and another,  and we want to be comfortable while we operate them. We introduced computer chips which literally meant that humans gave a metal a memory. A memory that we use to store songs, pictures, contacts etc.
Being an engineer in India is a tough thing as there was a time in history when 2 most reputed jobs were engineer and doctor, and engineering being easier to grasp attracted the majority of the community. Now every year there are more than 1.5 million engineering students getting their undergrad degree, the competition is fierce and so most people give up. I say don’t give up, I say don’t take engineering if you cant comprehend the basic newton's laws which are defiantly not inseparable from anyone's daily life. I say if you end up taking engineering, show the world what you can make, what you are capable of. You don’t have to come up with astounding ideas to be a successful engineer, you have to just have a good conceptual grasp and things would happen on their own.
Being an engineer is awesome and be proud about it ! GO CHANGE THE WORLD !
